Down by the River

"Down by the River" began on a crisp autumn drive through the mountains, when a narrow road curved suddenly and opened onto this quiet ribbon of water. I pulled over, just to stand there and listen to the hush of the trees and the soft rush of the current below. Later, in my studio, I reached for my palette knives instead of brushes, wanting the scene to feel as tactile and alive as it had in that moment.
