Ice Hockey on the Lake

"Ice Hockey on the Lake" began with the sound of laughter echoing across the ice. One cold afternoon, my quiet lake transformed into a rink, where neighbors skated out with sticks and makeshift goals, chasing a puck as the sky blushed with winter light. I knew I had to capture that brief, breathless energy on canvas.

This 16x20 acrylic painting uses bold palette knife strokes to carve movement directly into the surface. The ice is not a flat plane, but a tapestry of ridges, scrapes, and frozen reflections. Heavy paint builds the edges of skates cutting into the surface, the rutted center where the puck travels, and the shimmer of snow where the game has worn it thin.
