Ice Fishing on the Lake

Ice Fishing on the Lake

$350.00
On certain winter mornings, my lake becomes an entirely different world. "Ice Fishing on the Lake" grew from one of those quiet days, when I watched a lone figure step onto the frozen surface, auger in hand, wrapped against the cold yet utterly at peace in the hush of snow and ice.

On this 16x20 acrylic palette knife painting, every stroke is meant to feel like the crunch of boots on packed snow and the sharp stillness of a frozen shoreline. I used thick, sculpted layers of paint to describe the fractured light on the ice, the subtle ridges where snowdrifts gather, and the gentle suggestion of distant trees softened by winter air. Up close, the surface almost reads like relief work; from a few steps back, it becomes a serene winter fishing scene that shifts with the light in your room.

I painted the fisherman deliberately small against the wide expanse of the lake, so the composition carries a sense of solitude, courage, and simple ritual. It is a portrait not just of a person, but of a season-those weeks when the world narrows to muted blues, soft grays, and the promise of quiet time with one's thoughts.

Hung in an entryway, office, or den, this piece invites a pause-a reminder to seek stillness amid the rush of daily life. It pairs beautifully with other works from my lake community series, yet it is strong enough to stand alone as a focal point. For collectors who love winter, angling, or the meditative pull of open space, this canvas brings the frozen lake indoors, where you can savor its calm all year long.
